The Uppsala Group of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIGUP) was organized in 1998. In STIGUP, a broad range of professional competencies are represented. Therefore the group has the potential to run preventive-, clinical- and laboratory profile projects within the STI sector. The main purpose of STIGUP with its broad competence is to serve as the basis for the Eastern Europe-located STI-projects, closely collaborating with the WHO, supporting CEE/NIS countries in their efforts to control the current STI epidemics.
